Think You Know the Code of Conduct?...     Positions on Zero Tolerance Policies...

     Zero Tolerance Survey

Which of the items pictured below would you consider dangerous instruments?

The Christina School District Code of Conduct defines a dangerous instrument as "an instrument, article or substance which is readily capable of causing serious physical injury...". Isn't every student in the Christina School District guilty of possessing a dangerous instrument? They do state that you are only guilty of violating the Code of Conduct if it is "unauthorized possession" of such an instrument, however, since there is no explicit list of authorized or unauthorized instruments, should we assume that all instruments are authorized or all instruments are unauthorized? Keep in mind also, most zero tolerance policies are enforced "Regardless of possessor’s intent". Don't believe it? Look it up.

It's time parents take a united stand against the unbelievably unfair treatment of our children.

READ THE ENTIRE CODE OF CONDUCT, WORD FOR WORD. While the Christina School District has amended their Code of Conduct for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, there is still work to be done to ensure fairness to ALL students. Your child could be the next victim of a zero-tolerance policy.

Now that you've thought about which of these you would consider to be dangerous instruments, consider which of these you would expect a child to think of as dangerous instruments?!
